A blinding spotlight. Trapping him, identifying him.
He was no stranger to names, had more than he wanted to remember. They were easy to cast off. Well, not always easy - Simon had fought to stick around for a while.
494 had been a designation, not a name. Almost anonymous.
But now, having this name, answering to it automatically? It unsettled him. Put him in the spotlight.
He spat out a quasi-insulting, fully-sarcastic comment that was all Alec, and drained the glass. Willing his metabolism to slow down just enough to let him sink back into the darkness of anonymity.
