Spoilers: None
Warnings: Hypothetical Character Death
Count: 2/10
Author's Notes: Why did I do this to myself?

"What would I do if you died?"

David glanced up from his computer screen, giving the room a quick scan before answering.

"Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?"

"Probably." Charlie took a sip of coffee, glancing over his shoulder. "But what would I do?"

"Probably go on living, just like you did before me."

He watched as Charlie considered and rejected his suggestion, each thought clear as day on his face.

"It would be different."

"How?"

"You wouldn't be here."

"So?"

He climbed over the side of the couch finally, settling next to David.

"Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. He was a jurist in the late 19th century. He once said that a mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimension."

"Meaning?"

"Meaning I'd miss you." Charlie scooted closer, careful not to jostle his arm, still sore even in the sling around his neck. "And my life would never be the same."

"Technically, according to that guy, your life will never be the same no matter what, as long as you keep learning."

"So what?"

"So my dying would be of little significance, since your life will still change whether I live or die."

"Your logic is flawed."

"So what?" He grinned at the way Charlie very nearly pouted.

"So what? So-"

David laid his good arm on Charlie's knee, and Charlie fell silent, staring at him intently.

"So you're lucky I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."

Warnings: Pillow Talk
Count: 3/10
Author's Notes:

"Is there any way we could, um, not tell Don about this?"

Charlie raised his head from the pillow slightly. "What?"

"Not tell Don. About this. Us."

"I wasn't really gonna run out and call him, but okay." He rolled over, attempting to glance at the clock. "What time is it?"

"Five forty six. I'm gonna have to go to work in an hour, and I was just thinking..."

"About Don?"

Fuck it all, David sighed. Charlie was grinning at him, and it was not the kind of grin he wanted stuck in his mind a couple hours from now.

"Yeah, a little. I work with him, alright? Like it or not, I work with your older brother, and I don't think he'd appreciate-"

"Don doesn't appreciate anything when it comes to my romantic life. He didn't appreciate it when Terry almost asked me out either."

"Terry?" He snorted.

"What?"

"Just...you. And Terry."

"I could have been with Terry if I wanted, you know."

"Yeah. And Larry's gonna really get with Megan."

"They have gone on a couple dates you know."

"Yeah. Lunches. Lunches don't mean anything. I go out to lunch with Don."

"Now you're just trying to make me jealous." Charlie grinned, rolling over again to face the wall. "My first class isn't until nine. Lemme go back to sleep."

"Lazy."

"Teacher."

"FBI."

"You win, now shut up."

Spoilers: None
Warnings: Thai Food, Looks
Count: 4/10
Author's Notes:

"I'll go too David."

Charlie had swallowed thickly as Megan had given him 'The Look'. That...profiler look she had. Colby had looked at him too, but definitely not in the same way. Colby’s was definitely more of a squinty sort of look, and Don...Don had clapped him on the shoulder and said thanks and rattled off his order before the others were done looking at him.

Good old Don. Completely blind to everything he didn't want to see. Thank God.

Right now he and David were sitting at a red light, the back seat of David's car piled high with Styrofoam boxes in plastic bags. They were all giving off the tantalizing aroma of Chinese food, which was only succeeding in making Charlie's mouth go dry.

"So why'd you wanna come?" David asked, abruptly reminding Charlie that he probably should have attempted small talk before they left Peking Village.

"Oh, I'm...hungry." He shrugged.

"Yeah? You, ah, didn't order anything back there."

"Oh. I didn't? I guess I was thinking about something else."

David smiled. "I know how that is. There wasn't anything that I was really digging back there. I’m not in the mood for Chinese."

"Yeah, me neither."

David tapped his hands on the steering wheel for a moment.

"You maybe wanna go somewhere else?"

"Sure. I mean, if you do."

"I wouldn't have suggested it if I didn't, Charlie."

And oh God, Charlie groaned inwardly as his heart jumped into his throat. A small smile, his eyes crinkling slightly, and-

And now David was giving him a look.
