Author's Notes: Written late, with no beta for checkups. I really do believe that this pairing is canon. You just can't always see it. =) They don't belong to me. But oh if they did.
Morning came as an unwelcome interruption. Years of being a Marine woke him every day at five whether he wanted to or not. For years he had just gotten up and started his routine of coffee and work. Weekends he chugged coffee and worked on his boat.
It was a different story for the woman in his bed. His companion was only awake at that hour if she had not gone to bed or he woke her up.
Gibbs sighed as brilliant morning light slipped around the dark curtains. He tipped his head forward to press his lips against her neck. As much as he hated the early morning, he loved these moments with Abby.
He was not overly emotional but he had also lived a life of pain and loss. Gibbs knew he had to appreciate what he had here and now, before what he had was gone. And so each morning that he woke before Abby, he took these few minutes to appreciate what he held.
Gibbs smiled as she rolled over and faced him. The only thing he loved more than waking with her was the sound of her voice when she woke.
"Mornin'."
He nodded as he brushed her hair from her face. Her face was soft and clear in the morning light, free from her heavy makeup. Abby flashed a soft sleepy smile as his fingers traced down her neck.
He kissed her in hopes of stalling the moment they would have to get up and face the day.
