"You know, I just don't understand women and their clothes these days," Sam said, leaning back in his desk chair.
Josh put his sneaker-ed feet up on Sam's desk and shrugged.
"What's wrong with women's clothes?"
"Josh, come on. Have you seen some of these women around this place and on the Hill? With the tight sweaters and the short skirts that should seriously be illegal in all 50 states, plus Puerto Rico."
"What's wrong with short skirts?" Josh flashed a grin.
Sam rubbed his forehead.
"I'm not saying anything is wrong, Josh, I'm saying that there are certain women who shouldn't wear certain things. It's--improper for our field of work!"
"Sam, when did you become such a--oh, I don't know, wuss? You've always had a thing for pretty girls in short skirts? Dare I mention your hooker friend? Laurie?"
"She wasn't a hooker, she was a call girl, Josh. And she was still professional." Sam said. "These days, I'd rather have someone professional looking than someone trashy."
Josh simply raised his eyebrows.
"Donna's worn some shorter skirts around the office, is she trashy?" he asked.
"Oh for God's sake, Josh," Sam rolled his eyes. "Donna is classy. She is pure class, nothing else. You have seen her in a dress, right?"
Josh's face turned pink. Sam chuckled.
"My point has just been made."
"Good morning, boys," a Southern laced female voice chirped.
Josh and Sam looked up to see Ainsley's bright face smiling at them, dressed in a soft gray sweatshirt and a pair of well-worn jeans. Sam blinked for a moment.
"Hi Ainsley," Josh grinned. "What are you doing here on a Saturday?"
"Oh, I have some paperwork to finish up, and I hate doing it on Mondays, so I thought I'd pop in for a couple of hours and see what I could get done. Plus, I like to dress sloppy," Ainsley smiled, her blue eyes shining. "And what other workplace is cooler than this to be a slob in?"
Sam smiled shyly, peering over the top of his wire-rimmed glasses. He pushed the sleeves of his black sweater up over his elbows and twirled a pen in his fingers.
"Hey, I resent that," he smiled. "I don't think I'm dressed like a slob,"
Josh groaned. Ainsley laughed.
"No Sam," she said. "A slob, you are not. I don't think you could be any more impeccable, even in jeans and a sweater."
"Thank you," he smiled. "You look--nice too,"
She shook her blonde head and walked away. Sam watched her leave and then turned to Josh. His mouth opened to speak again, but it shut quickly.
"Soooo," Josh grinned. "How's that look for professional?"
"Damned good," Sam mumbled. "I never want to see a short skirt again. Seriously. If all women looked like that one does in a sweatshirt and jeans, my life would be complete,"
"And here you were complaining just a few minutes ago," Josh said.
"Josh?" Sam glowered at his friend.
"Yeah?"
"Shut up."
