In her nightmares, Harry and her are running away from the enemy that is chasing them in a maze. Everywhere around them there is danger and she knows that their time is running out. They are either going to be caught by Death Eater or by one of the traps in the maze. Harry grabs at her hand and starts to pull her so that she’ll run faster. Her breath is coming out in pants and she can’t understand what Harry is yelling at her, she looks at him in confusion. He keeps pulling at her and she constantly stumbles, until the finally come up against a dead end. The green branches of the hedge that makes up the maze seems to mock them as Harry pushes her behind him as he turns to face their enemy. She can never quite tell who it is facing them, all she can see is figure cloaked in black wielding a wand. The figure seems to tower over them and she grasps at Harry’s shirt and she knows that this is the end. And without fail, she wakes up, as the figure in front of them is about to cast a spell. Hermione always sits bolt upright with tears in her eyes from the fear of the nightmare. Once she has caught her breath, she creeps out of her bed and makes her way to the boys’ dormitory, where she stealthily creeps towards Harry’s bed. He mutters as he moves for her and she crawls into the bed beside him. He always throws his arm over and his warm body is comforting and it allows her to go back to sleep, this time without nightmares.

They were in the library researching the newest threat that the Death Eaters had decided to throw at them and they were both tired. Hermione sighed as she looked over at Ron who had fallen asleep on his books. It always seemed that on their late night research sessions, the boys would fall asleep leaving her with the bulk of the work. Just as she decided that she would call it a night, Harry caught her hand. They were being quiet so that they wouldn’t disturb Ron, so she looked over at him. He pointed out a paragraph in the book that he was reading. She quickly read it and smiled at him, it was just what he would need. At her smile, Harry pulled her into his arms and kissed her, and at that moment it seemed as if time stood still. Her surprised eyes met his green ones and she knew that he had felt the same thing that she did. He frowned slightly but still moved closer to her and kissed her again. Again the kiss was exciting and they both knew that it wasn’t something that two friends had shared. Ron muttered in his sleep and they both jumped apart looking guiltily at their sleeping friend. Harry smiled at her and she knew that tomorrow, they would explore the kiss and what had happened.

As Ron watches Harry and Hermione together, he knows that this time he has lost her forever. It won’t be like any other time, when he could win her back and there won’t be any sudden realizations that she loves him and he loves her in return. The knots in his stomach tighten as Harry’s thumb casually traces the line of her jaw before they kiss. Ron wants to hate Harry but he can’t, just like he can’t hate Hermione either. It’s not their fault that he still loves Hermione. He turns away from them feeling slightly ill. The blissfully unaware couple laugh at something as Ron tries to come to terms with Hermione and Harry being together.

The final battle had taken it’s toll on Harry, especially since he had already been wounded before he had faced the Dark Lord. And although Harry had managed to defeat the Dark Lord, he had collapsed shortly afterwards. Hermione had collapsed to the muddy ground beside Harry and had cradled his broken body in her arms. Ever since that moment, she had refused to leave his side. When Ron had attempted to gently pry her from Harry, she had snapped at him and told the redhead that she would remain by Harry’s side for the duration of his illness. Her behaviour had worried many people but no one had been able to convince her to leave his side. It had finally been Molly Weasley who had managed to convince the young witch to leave Harry’s bedside. She had merely pulled Hermione into her arms and allowed her to grieve over their losses. Hermione had felt guilty for leaving Harry, but Molly had convinced her that when Harry finally woke up, he would need her to be strong for him not weakened from her bedside vigil.

Time waits for no one not even lovers and as Harry watched Hermione dress he was reminded of that. It seemed as if their lives had gotten busier and more rushed, which meant that they had less time that they could spend together. Their lazily stolen afternoons full of lovemaking had almost vanished, and in their place were rushed moments when they could break away from their hectic lives.
“Harry?” Hermione asked as she looked at him.
“Yes, Hermione?”
”Don’t you have to get back to the Ministry?”
”Yeah.”
”So aren’t you going to get dressed?”
”I guess I should, but don’t you ever miss the old times?”
”The old times?” Hermione asked as she sat down on the bed beside him.
“You know when we could spend all afternoon in bed together,” Harry explained as he brushed an errant curl off of her face.
Hermione paused as she looked at him and wondered what he was going on about. They had grown up and now they had to do grown up things, even if that meant stolen moments from their careers.
“All the time,” Hermione quietly replied.
“Let’s go on vacation then, we can go somewhere that no one knows us and we can just spend all afternoon in bed together.”
”Oh Harry, I don’t think I can.”
”Hermione, why can’t we? I’m not exactly poor and you have more than enough talent to do anything that you want, so why don’t we just go away somewhere?”
He waited as she stared at him as she weighed the decision in her mind. Harry desperately wanted her to agree to it, but he knew that there was a good chance that she might not agree. Hermione seemed to have something to prove to the wizarding community and he wouldn’t stand in her way if that were what she really wanted to do. She surprised him when she broke out into an infectious grin.
”Okay, Harry, let’s do it. Let’s just run away.”
”Really?”
”Really, Harry!” Hermione exclaimed as she laughed while he pulled her into his arms.

The last time that Harry had seen Hermione she had been smiling and laughing at one of Molly’s luncheons. The Weasley family had opened their arms to both Harry and Hermione during the course of the war, and it was Molly’s luncheons that gave them all a sense of normalcy and peace. That uneventful Sunday afternoon hadn’t been any different than any of the other ones that had come before it. Before the luncheon Harry had assigned them all various tasks to do and although the threat of death was always present, on that sunny afternoon it had seemed a distance thing. And they had all turned to the fun of the luncheon.
He remembers her laughing and smiling while she and Ginny played with Fleur’s baby. Ron and Harry had smiled fondly at the two young woman when they had whispered and giggled at the boys. After the meal, they had all went their separate ways, but not before Hermione had hugged him. It was the last time he had seen her, before he had sent her on to her death, and he hadn’t even been aware of it. Perhaps if he had been, he wouldn’t have ignored her scolding for him to take better care of himself. And perhaps if he had known what the future would hold for her, he would have hugged her closer and told her that how much he loved her. And now he would never have that chance.

It had started out innocently enough with a bored Harry, Hermione and Ron on a hot summer’s night. None of them could sleep that night and Hermione had finished telling the boys about a game some of her muggle friends had played during a birthday party she had been invited to. For some reason, Ron had been greatly interested in the game of spin the bottle. Before Harry or Hermione could refuse his suggestion, the read head had run off to get a bottle for the game. By the time he had returned with Ginny in tow, Harry and Hermione hadn’t thought of a good enough reason to dissuade Ron from playing the game.
The game had started out innocently enough with Hermione and Ron ending up getting one another, while Harry and Ginny had each gotten one another. It was a fun way to pass a hot and sleepless night, until Harry had spun the bottle and it had pointed at Hermione. He swallowed nervously as he looked at her, and he couldn’t help but think how this wasn’t supposed to happen but somehow it had. Harry suddenly knew that if he were to kiss her then everything would change and Harry couldn’t risk that at this time. Change was not something that he could afford or something that he even wanted. Things were supposed to be static for him right now while he was waiting for the time when he would be forced to destroy the Dark Lord. And kissing Hermione would ensure that everything changed, although he wasn’t quite sure what would change. Still as they leaned forward to exchange the kiss, Harry turned slightly so that he kissed her cheek. As he pulled back, he could see the hurt in her eyes and it hurt him far more than he had thought possible.
