brightillusions's fault. Heh. I blame her for this. But I can honestly say I had way too much fun writing this. Poor Sam. *g*

Sam wandered through the Communications Bullpen, briefcase in his hand and coat hanging over one arm. He greeted Cathy, Ginger, and Bonnie and received odd blank stares from the three women. He sighed softly.

"Yes, I cut it," he said, running his fingers self-consciously through his newly shorn auburn hair.

"It looks--good," Bonnie said.

Sam rolled his eyes slightly and kept walking. Cathy picked up the phone.

"Donna? It's me. Sam cut his hair,"

"Really?" Donna's voice was tinny through the receiver.

"Would I lie to you?"

"Maybe." Donna hung up.

Josh came walking by her and Donna shot up, her strides matching his and leaning close to him.

"Yes?" he raised an eyebrow.

"So, Cathy just called me and told me that Sam cut his hair," Donna said.

Josh glanced at her, but stopped in the doorway of his office. He saw Donna's face turn hopeful and he sighed, shaking his head. She smirked.

"Can't resist your curiosity, can you?"

"I blame you," Josh groaned. She tucked her arm through his and they walked across the White House toward Sam and Toby's bullpen. CJ came walking up, her nose practically buried into a leather folder of papers and notes.

"Good morning, Claudia Jean," Josh said.

"Joshua," she said, looking up and peering over the top of her glasses. "Hi Donna,"

Donna nodded at her. Josh and CJ started talking and the trio made their way toward Sam's office. Donna met Cathy, Bonnie, and Ginger's glances and grinned.

"Sam," Cathy called out. "CJ, Josh, and Donna are here,"

They poked their heads into Sam's office as the younger man's head shot up and his glasses glinted in the lamplight. He stopped writing. Donna gasped. Josh's brown eyes widened, and a dimpled grin spread across his face.

"Oh no," Sam muttered.

"The hell? Who do you think you are, George Clooney?"

"I like it," Donna said

"It's--it's short, Sam," CJ said, glancing at the top of his head.

"Oh for God's sake!" Sam sputtered, slamming his pen to his desk. "I just cut my hair, it's not like I cut off my nose and had it attached--I don't know--to my elbow or something!"

"Well that would just be silly," Josh said, grinning.

Sam's head dropped to his desk with a resounding smack. CJ and Josh exchanged smiles and Donna rolled her eyes.

"Poor Sam," she said. "I think it looks great,"

"Thanks, Donna," his voice was muffled against his pad of paper.

"Josh, come on," she tugged on the sleeve of his jacket. "Let's leave the shorn sheep to his work, huh?"

CJ let out a chuckle, smothering it with a hand. Josh grinned again. Sam groaned loudly. He cleared his throat.

"Cathy! Ginger! Bonnie! You are dead!" he cried. "Seriously. Going to kill someone!"

"Sorry, Sam," came a chorus of voices.

"Yeah, I bet you are," he grumbled.

Not fifteen minutes later, he, Josh, CJ, Toby, and Leo sat in the Oval Office, waiting for the Senior Staff meeting to begin. The President sauntered in with Charlie.

"Good morning, everyone, let's begin," he said.

"Sir, we have a situation brewing in--" Leo as interrupted as the President lifted a hand.

"Sorry Leo. Um, Sam? Did you cut your hair?"

Sam's face flushed pink.

"Yes sir, I did," he said quietly.

"It looks--short, but good," The President smiled, his eyes twinkling. "Although I have to say, were you trying for the whole George Clooney--thing?"
