He watched her intently as she entered the room with Bailey and her team. His brown eyes flickered warmly over her pretty face and he saw a self-conscious blush creep onto her cheeks. He smiled broadly when Bailey asked her interns what they knew about him. With his eyes fixed on the pretty one's face, he spoke, his voice a husky drawl.

"Capricorn, single, loves to travel and cook," he said.

She hid a grin as Bailey rolled her eyes.

"Denny, shut up and let her show off a bit," she said.

Izzie Stevens flashed a smile and pulled a little memo book from the pocket of her white coat. She cleared her throat, his gaze still steady on her face.

"Denny Duquette, 36, admitted for a heart transplant, which was made necessary by viral cardiomyopathy," she spoke clearly.

"Meaning?" Bailey asked.

Cutting Alex off, Izzie spoke again.

"His heart is unable to fill and pump blood normally."

"Good," Bailey said, nodding her approval. "Well Denny, Dr. Stevens here will be monitoring you,"

Denny's smile brightened, his eyes shining. Izzie blushed again, ducking her head.

"Well, it looks like I'll be seeing you around, Dr. Stevens," he said, his voice suddenly quiet. She grinned and nodded, following Bailey and the rest of the interns out of the room.

Annoyed, Alex turned to her and complained about Denny being very obvious in hitting on her. Izzie, suddenly feeling an odd sense of protectiveness about the charming heart patient, slapped Alex in the arm.

"Shut up," she glowered. "He was just trying to be nice!"

Alex stalked off, and Izzie turned to glance into the window of Denny's room. She watched as he settled into the pillows and a nurse pulled a blanket up across his chest. She saw him smile at the nurse and thank her, and his eyes flickered to look at her in the window. Izzie spun around, embarrassed to have been caught, and scribbled frantically on a chart, her cheeks flaming.

Inside the hospital room, Denny Duquette grinned and winked at the young nurse as she left.

"I'm going to make her fall for me," he said to himself, his eyes closing.

He tried to sleep, but found only his mind drifting between sleep and consciousness. His eyes fluttered open when he heard a soft noise and he found Izzie standing next to the bed, glancing at his monitors and writing in his chart. He smiled, drawing in a painful breath.

"Can I—ask you a personal question?" he asked.

Izzie looked up from his chart, her eyebrow raised. She pursed her lips, wanting so much to tell him no, but something in his face made her finally agree.

"Are you with that guy Alex?" Denny asked, watching as her eyes narrowed for a moment. She turned to look at him, tucking a stray hair behind her ear.

"No. And I won't be ever again," she said simply.

"Good,"

"Excuse me? Good?" Izzie's voice was incredulous.

"Well yeah, it makes me not have to fight him for you," Denny was grinning mischievously.

Izzie glanced at him, an amused look on her face. She asked him why he would think she would want him to fight for her.

"Hello!" Denny said, beaming. "You're in love with me."

Izzie rolled her eyes, and she wondered maybe just how right he was. Denny listed off his good points, and then he chuckled softly.

"What?" Izzie asked, smiling shyly.

"I'm a catch," Denny shrugged and winked. "You know, if you can wrap yourself around the enlarged failing heart,"

Izzie laughed, and then she found her lips moving and sound coming out, but she had no clue where the words came from.

"Somehow, I think I can work with that," she said quietly.
